According to Nickle LaMoreaux, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at IBM, artificial intelligence (AI) will replace or supplement specific functions and positions to enable individuals to pursue other work focused on helping them rise up the value chain.
This comes months after IBM CEO Arvind Krishna stated that the business may stop hiring for roles that it believes will be replaced by AI in the coming years. Krishna stated that during a five-year period, he expects AI and automation to replace approximately 30% of non-customer-facing roles (roughly 7,800 jobs).
In an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol, LaMoreaux stated that Krishna’s statements were taken “a little bit out of context. I believe that very few jobs will be completely replaced by AI; very few jobs.” I also believe that there will be relatively few jobs that are completely new. From an HR standpoint, I am concerned that the media is entirely misrepresenting the situation.
